Chris Benson: We need to be certain that there is a syllabus that is sufficiently rigorous for those wishing to study pure sciences

Chris Benson is a Year 6 Teacher

I am very concerned that science has been removed from the core curriculum at primary level. I have heard the hour allotted to science will be halved in several schools. This will have an affect on senior schools. I understand that most students will not take degrees in science, but two of my friends who lecture at university are saying that GCSE science no longer prepares students for A-levels in pure science and these barely prepare students for degree level study. We need to be certain that there is a syllabus that is sufficiently rigorous for those wishing to study pure sciences; indeed our country needs students to study these.
